UPGRADING YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM Whenever you upgrade the operating system on your computer please disconnect any external drives from the system, and then reattach them after the update is complete. We have seen cases where leaving the drives attached has caused the bridge boards to be damaged. If you are upgrading from MacOS 9 to MacOS X we recommend that you reformat your external hard drive for OS X using the disk utility that is in OS X. We have seen cases where using the drive on OS X without reformatting it for OS X has caused the directory to be damaged which can lead to the lose of your data.

If your Cobra firewire hard drive is not mounting, or the icon disappears after you upgrade to 10.3.9 or 10.4 the problem could be due to a communication problem between the new firewire support that Apple put into these versions of MacOS and older firmware on the bridge board of the drive. You can correct this problem by updating the firmware. You can get the updater by calling tech support at 714-694-0031 x216 or sending an email to tech@ezq.com. Please include the serial number or part number of the drive so we can make sure you get the correct updater.

It has come to our attention that MacMall is offering our Cobra USB 2.0 CD/DVD burner for sale on their website. This drive was marketed by us as PC only, that is why it only has PC software and why Toast is not included. We do not why MacMall is selling this drive, we sold the drive to the parent company of MacMall which also does the purchasing for PCMall so it is possible that MacMall just picked up the item number from them. We never said that Toast was included with this drive and it is not listed on the box or the shipping materials so we do not know why MacMall is advertising that it contains that program. We marketed this drive as PC only for a couple of reasons. The first is that USB 2.0 is popular on PC systems, but very few Mac users purchase USB 2.0 optical or hard drives since their systems come with firewire ports and firewire is much faster then USB 2.0. The second reason is that Apple changed the USB support in 10.3.9 and 10.4 and the bridge boards used on these drives do not work well with most systems running these versions of MacOS. Since MacMall advertised these drives as containing toast we can mail you a copy of the program, but if you are running 10.3.9 or 10.4 there is a very good possibility that the drive will not work properly on your system. In this case the best solution would probably be to return the drive to MacMall and get a firewire model. All of our firewire models work on both Mac and PC systems and come with both Mac and PC software. We apologize for the mistake made by MacMall and for the inconvenience it has caused.

To quiet a noisy fan, it sometimes helps to blow canned air into the slots above the letters CE on the back of the fan while it is turning, and put a few drops of light oil such as 3 in 1, sewing machine oil, or WD-40 into the same slots so that it can trickle down into the bearing sleeve and lubricate it.
